Things Wrong With the Government: Overspending

Posted on 22 July 2009 by Josh Miller

Here’s the link as usual for the basis of this post, because I like to cite sources!

There are two key lines here…

Funding Amount $1,191,200

This is the first key line. This is the amount of money spend on the project.

Here is the second key line…

Description of Work/Service performed
2 POUND FROZEN HAM SLICED

Let that sink in a bit. In case you aren’t familiar with the cost of HAM, I suggest you head down to your local super market. Or Your Local Butcher, or even your local Wal-Mart. First, go to the lunch meat section. Notice that you can get a 1lb pack of ham for around $3. Maybe even less if you get the cheap stuff.

But what if it’s not the cheap stuff. Head to the deli counter and ask the person there how much two pounds of their most expensive Ham costs. I don’t have an actual number since I tend to buy cheap but let’s say they have some REALLY GOOD imported specially seasoned ham. I imagine AT BEST you’d pay say, $15/lb. I am in fact pulling this number completely out of my ass but I assure you it’s extremely “high balling” it.

Meanwhile, the government is paying someone $550,ooo+/lb of SLICED HAM.

NOTE: The information reported on the website may be factually incorrect. If it’s causing so much problem though, why hasn’t it been corrected online? I smell cover up!
